Ingredients
- Vegetable broth500 ml
- Lentils (dried)150 g
- Basmati rice120 g
- Garam Masala1 tablespoon
- Lemon1 u (85 g)
- Fine saltto taste
- Bay leafto taste
- Chili pepperto taste
- Parsleyto taste
- Sageto taste
- Rosemaryto taste
Procedure
0. Prepare the vegetable broth. Keep warm.
1. Wash the lentils and place them in a saucepan with the hot broth, garam masala, chili pepper, and the bunch of spices tied with string.
2. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and cook over medium-low until the lentils are tender and starting to fall apart (20-30 minutes). Add more broth if needed. Season with salt towards the end of cooking. Remove the spice bundle.
3. For the rice: Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Place it in a small saucepan with broth (1:2 ratio), cover, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cook, uncovered, for 10-12 minutes. Let it rest for a few minutes.
4. Serve: Place the dal in a bowl, with the rice on the side or on top. Garnish with fresh parsley and a squeeze of lemon.
