  • 3. Add the browned meat to the pan with the onion and cook for a few minutes. Then add the drained beans and spices, and cover with water. At this stage, you can add 5-6 bay leaves, which will give the fejioada its characteristic flavor.
  • 4. Cook over low heat for about 4 hours, covered, keeping the water level constant. After half an hour, you can increase the heat and remove the lid to reduce the broth.
  • 5. Serve the fejioada hot with basmati rice!
